HSC Medical Center Continues Tradition

In 2007, HSC Medical Center continues its tradition of providing vital and critical services to our community.  Offering the latest technology, excellent patient care, and superior medical staff and employees, HSCMC is committed to providing the best medical care possible.

 

Just in the past year, HSC Medical Center has purchased a state-of-the-art 64-slice CT for its radiology department, allowing the hospital to offer some of the most advanced CT studies available.  In the surgery department, HSCMC acquired a high definition medical video system that allows surgeons superior visualization as they perform surgical procedures.  

 

Excellent patient care is delivered through the medical/surgical unit, acute care unit, step-down unit, mental health unit, and rehabilitation unit.  The medical/surgical area will soon convert to all private rooms; the rehabilitation unit is already all private.  The mental health unit, one of only a few adult psychiatric units in the state, is expanding its capacity to 18 beds.  The rehabilitation unit is fortunate to have a board certified physical medicine specialist, Dr. Sonia Williams, as medical director.

 

The emergency department at HSCMC is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day with full-time physician coverage.  Visits to the ER continue to increase each year making it a very busy place!

 

The Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center has been open over a year and has provided excellent results for its patients.  Dr. Alan Gerber has recently been named medical director of the program.  In conjunction with that center, a Diabetic Support Group has been formed and will meet on the second Tuesday of each month.  Virginia Wood, RN, Wound Center Manager, will facilitate the support group.

 

HSCMC Home Health continues to cover Hot Spring County, as well as four other surrounding counties.  Outpatient therapy services are provided by the hospital’s physical therapy department.  Other outpatient services are available including nutrition education, speech therapy, and respiratory therapy.  Sleep studies may be performed at HSCMC through Coulter Sleep Labs.

 

HSC Medical Center continues to maintain an excellent active medical staff of which Hot Spring County should be proud. In the past year, several new physicians have been added to the HSCMC consulting medical staff:  Dr. Scott Walsh, orthopedics; Dr. Kevin McLeod, orthopedics; Dr. Alan Gerber, general surgery; Dr. Tony Daniels, obstetrics & gynecology; and Dr. Jennifer McCallum, rheumatology.

 

As one of the largest employers in the county, HSCMC is filled with dedicated and caring employees, many of whom live right here in Hot Spring County.  Just recently three among them were named the “Best Of” in Hot Spring County, including Woman of the Year, Muriel Howard; Nurse of the Year, Marcia Rogers; and Hospital Employee of the Year, Carla Dugger.

 

The By the Cup Café in the lobby of HSCMC continues to draw customers because of its fresh baked pastries, light lunches, and Starbucks products.  Also in the lobby, the Pink Lady Gift Shop, operated by the HSCMC Auxiliary, has remodeled and is offering a wider selection of merchandise.  Both enterprises are convenient for employees, patients, and visitors and are enjoyed by all!
