Outpatient Center

HSC Medical Center opened an Outpatient Center in June 2009.

The Outpatient Center is primarily for pre and post operative care.  Patients will be prepared for surgery in a private room and will return to the private room for their post operative recovery.  Family may remain with the patient before and after the surgery, and may wait in the private room during their family member’s procedure.

Dee Schall, Chief Nursing Officer, notes that once the surgery is completed, family members will be contacted by telephone to meet the physician in a private consultation room for a report on the surgery.   “This is a pro-active change to protect the privacy of our patients.  By having the post operative report from the physician in a private setting rather than in the public area of a waiting room, we are ensuring that privacy.”

Care in the Outpatient Center will be provided by a registered nurse.  Barbara Thomason, RN, has been assigned as the charge nurse for the area.

Other services that may be handled through the Outpatient Center include injections, infusions, and blood transfusions.

The Outpatient Center, which has 12 private rooms, is located on the first floor of HSC Medical Center in the wing that previously housed the Rehab Unit.
