Short Stay Unit

The Short Stay Unit, which is located on the first floor of the hospital, consists of twelve private rooms. Typical patients handled on this unit include observation patients, post-surgery patients, and outpatients. Observation patients are those patients who need to be observed for a limited number of hours (less then 24 hours) to determine whether the patient is sick enough to be admitted to the acute hospital. Nurses acting as “Gate Keepers” aide the physicians in monitoring the time a patient is in Observation and managing the proper admit status.
Post-surgery patients requiring extended recovery time before discharge home may be placed in the Short Stay Unit. Outpatients may also be handled through this unit when patients require a bed and a room. The Short Stay Unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the Gate Keepers, as well as appropriate nursing staff.
